Summer Job- STEM Camp Coordinator

We are looking for a virtual STEM Camp Coordinator between age 18-30 who can use their interpersonal skills and communication aptitude to help bring together young girls from diverse backgrounds. The STEM Coordinator will need to be creative and flexible when creating and delivering lessons as well as have excellent communication skills and an appreciation for diversity. Experience with coding is a must as our STEM camp has strong focus on coding classes. They will work with the other STEM coordinator and Research Support Officers within OGAV to execute the STEM Camp for our beneficiaries.

The coordinator will be under the direct supervision of a Director on a weekly basis. Supervision will include job specific training prior to starting the job, work instruction and tasks and evaluation of the work regularly as well as to discuss concerns or
issues. Each youth hired will also receive one-on-one mentoring throughout the eight weeks to support career related training and skill development.

Note that working hours are flexible but expected workload is 35 hours/week for a period of 2 months (8 weeks) as part of the Canada Summer Job program.

Summary of Duties:

  • Execute lessons on computer coding as part of our STEM Camp.
  • Set up and manage online classroom.
  • Plan, prepare, and teach hands-on STEM activities for the girls.
  • Assess progress of student activities.
  • Support students in their projects.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents, students, and the
    OGAV team.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the OGAV team for updates and planning.
  • Foster curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving among campers.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Female in STEM.
  • Post-Secondary education in STEM recreation, education or related field or an approved combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in coding languages including python and scratch are required.
  • Experience working with youth populations representing the range of diverse communities in the GTA.
  • Knowledge of Youth Services sector in the GTA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with data analysis and forecasting
  • Proven ability to plan and manage resources
  • Ability to deliver presentations
  • Ability to understand students’ needs and goals.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-Directed – Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 application.
